The High Priestess Tarot Card: Meaning in Love and Yes or No
A message comes in, and you don’t answer right away. Not because you are playing games. You just want to sleep on it and feel what you really think. The next morning the answer is suddenly clear, as if someone had whispered it to you overnight.
- The High Priestess stands for your intuition, the knowing that comes before any proof.
- In love, much is still unspoken, on both sides.
- To yes or no she answers: not yet, it’s still ripening.
- Her timing is slow.
- Be still for a moment and listen inside.

What the High Priestess shows you
- The two pillars: One is black and marked B, the other white and marked J. She sits right between them. Light and dark are both allowed, and she is in no hurry to choose.
- The veil with pomegranates: Behind her hangs a curtain full of pomegranates. Some things show themselves only when the time is right.
- The scroll: In her lap she holds a half hidden scroll. She knows more than she says out loud.
- The moon at her feet: A crescent moon rests on the ground by her robe. The moon rules feelings, dreams and the cycles we can’t hurry.
- The blue robe: Her robe flows down like water. Water means feeling, depth and memory.
- The crown: Her headpiece shows the waxing, the full and the waning moon. Everything has its phase.
What the High Priestess means
The High Priestess is the card of inner knowing. You already sense more than you admit. Think of meeting someone and feeling within a minute whether you can trust them, long before you could explain why.
Her key words are intuition, stillness, secrets and inner wisdom. She carries the number two, the number of pairs and of pausing between two options. Her element is water. To a yes or no question she doesn’t give a quick answer. She says: not yet, it’s still ripening. That isn’t a no. Her lively opposite is the Magician, who acts first.
I was born on a full moon, on a Monday, the day of the moon, and maybe that’s why this card feels so familiar to me. As a child I found cards lying around at my mother’s house, old fortune telling cards and Kipper cards, and the first thing I did was simply look at the pictures. First look, then translate. The High Priestess teaches exactly that.
In my readings every card lies upright. Her shadow side shows when you pull back so far that no one can reach you anymore. Share what you can.
The High Priestess in love
In love, this card asks you to trust what you feel, even when you can’t prove it yet.
If you’re single
Someone may already be on your mind, but nothing has been said. Don’t push. Watch how you feel around them.
If you’re in a relationship
There may be something unspoken between you, a wish or a worry. Choose a calm moment and ask a gentle question rather than demanding answers.
After a breakup
After a breakup, the High Priestess invites you to stop searching for every reason. Not every question gets answered from outside. Some answers grow quietly within you, often on the evenings you finally stop checking your phone.
In soul connections
With a twin flame she describes a deep inner knowing, a connection that seems to speak without words, even across distance. With a soulmate she shows a calm understanding where one look says enough. In a karmic bond she points to old secrets that want to come into the light. What makes a connection karmic, you can read in my article on the karmic relationship.
The High Priestess as a person, in timing, work and money
As a person: quiet and deeply feeling. At a loud party they would rather listen than talk. They notice what others miss and keep a lot to themselves.
As timing: not yet. Something is ripening in the background and needs a little more time.
At work: watching and waiting is smarter than pushing right now.
With money: hold your decisions for a moment. Read the fine print and listen to your gut before you sign.
The High Priestess in combination
- The High Priestess and the Moon: Vivid dreams and a lot of feeling. Trust your intuition, and still check the facts.
- The High Priestess and the Lovers: A deep connection that hasn’t been spoken out loud yet.
- The High Priestess and the Queen of Cups: Sensitivity times two. You read other people easily, so protect your own energy.
- The High Priestess and the Hermit: Time alone brings you the answer. Pulling back is wise now.
- The High Priestess and the Star: Your inner voice is guiding you toward hope.
Common questions about the High Priestess
Is the High Priestess a yes or no card?
She is neither a clear yes nor a clear no. She says not yet. The answer is still forming.
What does the High Priestess mean in love?
She points to deep feelings that haven’t been spoken yet, on your side or theirs. Trust your intuition and give things time.
What does the High Priestess mean as feelings?
Someone feels more than they show. They are quiet and careful and want to understand before they open up.
My advice for the High Priestess: Give yourself a quiet moment every day, even if it’s only five minutes with a cup of tea and no screen. Ask yourself one question and don’t force the answer. It may come while you are folding laundry.
And that message from yesterday? You answer it now, calm and clear, because you finally know what you want to say. Waiting a night was not hesitation. It was listening.

Simone, Die Sternenleserin
I was born on a full moon, and cards have been part of my life since childhood, lying around at my mother’s house. Astrology came along when I was 15. Since 2012 I have given more than 3800 readings, mostly about love and soul connections. I know what waiting feels like, so I walk with you from waiting to choosing, honestly and without empty promises. I work with tarot, Lenormand, astrology and numerology.
