The Chariot Tarot Card: Meaning in Love, Career and Yes or No
It’s 7:30 on a Monday. Lunches are half packed, someone can’t find a shoe, the dog needs to go out and your phone keeps buzzing. Somehow you get everyone out the door on time, keys in hand. You weren’t calm inside, but you held the wheel. That’s the Chariot.
- The Chariot stands for moving forward, willpower and a clear direction.
- In love, someone makes the first move instead of waiting.
- To a yes or no question, the Chariot says yes, with momentum.
- Its timing is soon.
- Stay on your path and don’t let yourself get pulled off course.

The symbols of the Chariot, one by one
- The two sphinxes: One black, one white, resting in front of the chariot. They stand for opposite pulls inside you, wanting this and that at the same time.
- No reins: Look closely: he holds no reins. He steers with his will, not with force.
- The starry canopy: Above him hangs a blue cloth full of stars. Bigger forces are with you when you know where you are going.
- The star on his crown: His goal shines clearly in his mind.
- The crescent moons on his shoulders: Two moon faces sit on his armor. Feelings ride along, and he wears them with dignity.
- The square on his chest: A square stands for will and stability, the steady center he steers from.
- The city behind him: He is leaving the walls behind. Moving forward means leaving the familiar.
What the Chariot means
The Chariot is the card of progress. You hold things in your own hands. Even if you feel torn inside, you keep moving. Maybe you write a list in the morning and cross off one item after another until evening. Stick to your goal and you will arrive.
Its key words are progress, willpower, direction and success. The Chariot carries the number seven, and its element is water. It fits: the charioteer has strong feelings and steers them instead of drowning in them. To a yes or no question, the Chariot gives a clear yes, often with movement attached, a trip, a decision or a fresh push. It is the moving partner of Strength, which comes right after it: the Chariot drives forward, Strength holds still.
Its shadow side: you push through with all your might and forget to look left or right. Strength needs a direction, and the people you love need a seat in your chariot too.
The Chariot in love
In love, the Chariot turns waiting into moving.
If you’re single
Someone makes a move, and maybe it’s you. Don’t sit by the phone. Go out, accept the invitation, send the first message. Love likes people who are on their way somewhere.
If you’re in a relationship
Things move forward: a trip together, a move, a big plan. If you feel pulled in two directions, say work and the relationship, talk about it before one side wins by default.
After a breakup
After a separation, the Chariot helps you get back on the road. You may feel a strong urge to win the person back. Turn that energy toward your own life first. No card can promise that someone returns. What the Chariot does show is that you won’t stay stuck.
In soul connections
With a twin flame, the Chariot describes the push and pull of two strong energies, just like the two sphinxes. Steering means staying with yourself instead of chasing. With a soulmate, it shows a couple heading in the same direction. In a karmic bond, it encourages you to drive on and leave the old cycle behind, as I describe in my article on the karmic relationship.
The Chariot in everyday life
As a person: determined and hands-on. When a friend moves, they rent the truck days in advance. In love they make the first move instead of waiting. Sometimes they want to go faster than others can follow.
As timing: soon. Things are getting into motion, often within weeks.
In your career: success because you keep at it. Applications, travel and projects pick up speed.
With money: progress through effort. Set a goal and drive toward it, but don’t race into risky deals.
Combinations with the Chariot
- The Chariot and the Lovers: Someone moves toward you with a clear intention.
- The Chariot and the Eight of Wands: Fast news, quick developments, maybe travel.
- The Chariot and the Six of Swords: Leaving a difficult situation behind for calmer waters.
- The Chariot and the Two of Swords: Inner conflict slows you down. Decide, then drive.
- The Chariot and the Knight of Cups: A romantic gesture or someone arriving with an offer.
Common questions about the Chariot
Is the Chariot a yes card?
Yes. The Chariot gives a clear yes and shows that things are moving, especially when you stay focused on your goal.
What does the Chariot mean in love?
Someone takes action instead of waiting. It can show a first move, a fresh start or a relationship that moves forward.
Does the Chariot mean someone is coming back?
It shows movement, and sometimes that movement is toward you. Still, no card can promise that a person returns. Above all, the Chariot says that you will move forward, either way.
My advice for the Chariot: Pick one goal and drive toward it, step by step. Hold your direction gently but firmly, the way the charioteer does without reins. And now and then, check that the people you love are still riding with you.
And that Monday morning? By the time the door closes behind you, the chaos is already a funny story. You didn’t need perfect calm. You needed a direction, and you had one.
Will they come back to you?
When someone has left and you keep wondering about the road ahead, I lay seven tarot cards and give you an answer that leans yes, leans no or stays open, with my advice. It’s in your hands before a full day has gone by.

Simone, Die Sternenleserin
I was born on a full moon, and cards have been part of my life since childhood, lying around at my mother’s house. Astrology came along when I was 15. Since 2012 I have given more than 3800 readings, mostly about love and soul connections. I know what waiting feels like, so I walk with you from waiting to choosing, honestly and without empty promises. I work with tarot, Lenormand, astrology and numerology.
